<this will be an abbreviated history of the development of the Las Mañanitas complex.>

 .

It was 1986 when 28-year-old Mike Schaible stepped off the plane for the first time in San Jose del Cabo. A rising star in a real estate development firm in Vail, Schaible was told to "take a week and check out this new area we may want to develop."

The next day, he quit. He's been here ever since.

First impressions hooked him. Although the "international airport" qualified owing to its one flight per day from the US!, and terminal was only a palapa, Schaible saw the promise of pristine beaches and the support of Fonatur, the government agency building a tourist destination in Los Cabos.  There was already one resort hotel, El Presidente, in the newly defined Zona Hotelera, and big plans for a Marina in Cabo San Lucas.  Total population: 25,000!
